Exposure visit at Indian Museum

Sutanutir Sakhya successfully organized an Educational Tour at the Indian Museum, Kolkata, as part of its Adolescent Awareness Programme for underprivileged adolescent girl students. The primary objective was to provide experiential learning opportunities and expand the participants' knowledge beyond the traditional classroom environment — promoting awareness, curiosity, confidence, and intellectual growth among adolescent girls from marginalized communities.
A total of nineteen adolescent girls participated, coming from Abdalpur, Digberia, Shreenagar, Humaipur, and Deganga. For many of the girls, it was their first visit to a museum — making the experience both exciting and enriching.
Objectives of the Programme
To provide educational exposure outside the classroom environment.
To increase awareness regarding history, science, culture, and heritage among adolescent girls.
To encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and observational skills.
To build self-confidence and improve social participation among underprivileged adolescents.
To create opportunities for holistic learning and personal development.
Activities Conducted
During the educational tour, the participants explored various galleries and exhibitions, visiting departments related to:
History and Archaeology
Anthropology
Natural Sciences
Reptile and Animal Preservation Galleries
They observed several rare and informative exhibits, including:
A 4,000-year-old Egyptian mummy
A 90,000-year-old giant snail fossil
The skeleton of a mammoth
The skeleton of a blue whale
A preserved giant gharial in the reptile section
The facilitators guided the participants throughout the visit, explaining important exhibits and encouraging interactive discussions. The students actively asked questions, shared their observations, and participated enthusiastically — making the tour highly engaging and educational.
Outcome of the Programme
The educational tour proved highly beneficial and impactful. The students gained valuable knowledge about India's cultural heritage, historical development, biodiversity, and scientific achievements, while enhancing their curiosity, observational skills, confidence, and overall awareness. The visit created a positive, interactive learning environment where the girls could freely explore, learn, and engage with new ideas — contributing significantly to their intellectual and personal development.
